We help individuals in the defense of state and federal felonies, including death penalty cases, post conviction relief and Habeas Corpus. In civil litigation we assist people, non-profits and businesses in the prosecution of personal injury matters occurring through accidents, medical malpractice, nursing home negligence, police misbehavior and products liability.
We assist other lawyers in various phases of those litigations, especially with forensic science issues. Led by Andrea D. Lyon, a nationally recognized lawyer on the death penalty defense dubbed the “Angel of Death Row”, she holds an unparalleled 19 – 0 defense of death penalty cases.
E. Kate Cohn officially joined Lyon Law in August, 2021, although she has worked with Andrea Lyon for the past two years. Ms. Cohn is a fierce advocate for Lyon Law’s clients and works tirelessly to understand the details of each case and to find the facts or errors that may have been overlooked by prior attorneys.
Ms. Cohn received her Juris Doctorate from Seattle University School of Law in December 2020, and she took and passed the Uniform Bar Exam in February 2021. She is licensed in Illinois and Washington state. During law school, Ms. Cohn also interned with the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, externed with the Pierce County Department of Assigned Counsel; and externed with the Washington State Division II Court of Appeals. Ms. Cohn was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois and moved to Tacoma, Washington to attend college. She received her B.A. in Sociology from the University of Puget Sound and her M.A. in Student Development Administration from Seattle University.
Andrea Lyon welcomes Mary H. Bandstra, who has joined the firm as a paralegal to add additional administrative support, legal research, drafting, policy work and outreach.
Ms. Bandstra has an extensive work history in the law and educational organizations that will add to the mission of Lyon Law. She was most recently the Assistant Dean of the College of Business at Valparaiso University in Valparaiso, Indiana. Before that, Mary was the Director of Operations for Valparaiso University Law School, Staff Supervisor of Legal Clinics at DePaul University College of Law and was the Coordinator of the Center for Justice in Capital Cases. Before her time in higher education, Mary was the education coordinator at St. Leonard’s Ministries in Chicago, Illinois, a nonprofit agency that provides wraparound social services for formerly incarcerated adults
Mary is currently a law student at Loyola University in Chicago School of Law. She earned a Master of Arts in Social and Cultural Foundations of Education from DePaul University College of EducationMary received her Bachelor of Arts in classical civilization and philosophy from Loyola University, Chicago, IL.
